Wayne Helliwell Jr

Lucky No.8

Lee USA Speedway celebrated the annual Banquet of Champions Saturday night November 19th, crowning 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Small Block Super modified champion Wayne Helliwell Jr. This brings Helliwell’s championship total to eight at the New Hampshire oval. What made this title special from the others was that it was done in an open wheeled Small Block Supermodified. 2011 was Helliwell’s first full season running a Small Block at Lee USA. Wayne had moonlighted in the division on and off over the last 10 years; but after the track made the decision to not run the Late Models on a weekly bases Wayne’s plans were to not race at Lee USA in 2011. But when his phone rang before the celebration ended for his 2010 Late Model Championship his plans changed. Ed Witkum asked him to pilot the #21 Witkum Brothers Racing Scherbon Consolidated Inc Small Block Super. It was all consistency from there on out. In 16 starts Wayne had 3 wins, 13 top 5’s, and 16 top 10’s to take home not only the Lee USA track championship but the 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American New Hampshire state championship.

This was Wayne’s 2nd New Hampshire State title. The season also brought the Witkum brothers their first championship. “This was a great end to a season. I’m really proud of these guys and what we did this year. Everyone is looking forward to heading to Charlotte (NASCAR Whelen Banquet) in a few weeks” said Wayne.
