Double Three's

Wayne Helliwell Jr. and the Pelham, NH based Bernhardt Motorsport's continued an impressive string of top four finishes clicking off back to back 3rd places in the last two American Canadian Tour events.

If consistency wins championships than the Helliwell, Bernhardt Team may be well on their way of repeating as series champions... The 27NH has not finished worse than forth since the opening round of the tour; including six straight top-3 finishes.

If you ask Helliwell he is quick to point out that sometimes it better to be lucky than good. "We have just been off... We have had some problem or issue just about every race. We've been fortunate to finish like we have been, he stated."

Call it luck, skill or whatever you want but the teams consistency has kept them on top of the series standings even with hard charging Joey Pole clicking off three straight victories.

Helliwell and Pole put on a driving clinic at Star Speedway two weeks ago. The duo ran side by side for some 60 laps for lead. Swapping the top spot five times over the last 30 circuits. A late race caution on lap 132 did not fall his way. The Dover, NH pilot would bring home 3rd place finish.

The series headed to White Mountain Motorsport's Park on July 13th for the start of the second half of he ACT schedule. 25 cars returned for make up event that was rained out in June. Helliwell fought an ill handled machine for much of practice and the heat race action. Having to run the consolation race for just the second time this year.

He would roll from the 9th starting position for the 150-lap event. Showing patience and taking what race gave him, Helliwell would work his way into the top 3 just past the 90-lap mark. With the field strung out an only one yellow flag during the event his forward progress would end there.

Taking home another 3rd place effort, Helliwell was pleased with the outcome and happy the race went caution free to the end. "We didn't need yellow for sure, I was so loose on entry I was just hanging to it. We wouldn’t have restarted next to the front two anyways with traffic. This is a good finish for us, he finished."

The Team will head to upstate New York this coming weekend for the biggest event in American Canadian Tour history; the $25,000 to win International 500 at Airborne Raceway.

The event will feature a Milk Bowl style format with three 100-lap races using a points system reflective of their finishing position. Drivers will receive points matching their finishing position for each 100 lap race. The driver with the lowest combined point total at the end of the three segments will take home the lions share of the $140,000 dollar purse.

Airborne Raceway a track the Ekeys-4-Cars, Unique Ford Fusion machine has had success In its three previous starts at the Plattsburgh, NY oval. Helliwell has two forth place finishes and a win at the season ending race last year, caring them to their first series title.

"Airborne is good track for us, Helliwell stated. We are looking forward to this event; it’s a huge deal for the series. I can’t think of a better event to get back to where i know we can be, he finished."
